Joseph Conrad was born today, 3rd December, in 1857. Born in the Ukraine, he became one of the greatest British novelists. His parents died when he was young and he was cared for by his uncle.
As a young man, Conrad went to sea, joining a French Merchant vessel before joining a British ship as an apprentice. After 8 years, his health made it necessary to leave the life at sea and he took up writing. His first novel Almayer’s Folly was published in 1895. He wrote many novels. Below is just one more:
Heart of Darkness: Conrad’s novel published in 1899, tells of the experience of Charles Marlow, an ivory transporter on the Congo River.
