Novelist Joseph Conrad

3 December 1857 – 3 August 1924

 

Joseph Conrad was born today, 3rd December, in 1857.  Born in the Ukraine, he became one of the greatest British novelists.  His parents died when he was young and he was cared for by his uncle.

 

As a young man, Almayer's FollyConrad went to sea, joining a French Merchant vessel before joining a British ship as an apprentice.  After 8 years, his health made it necessary to leave the life at sea and he took up writing.  His first novel Almayer’s Folly was published in 1895.  He wrote many novels.  Below is just one more:
