About

Seek always to do some good somewhere. Everyman has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it’s a little thing, do something for those who need help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. For remember, you don’t live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

About this blog

This blog is essentially about giving.  Passionate about words, about language and about writing, I want to be able to share my thoughts with you, but I also want to be able to share my knowledge, helping with hints, tips and advice wherever I can.

There were times when I was studying for my favourite qualification, a BA (Hons) in English, when I needed help.  I needed specific advice but it was late at night and the lecturers had all gone home.  There were times when I had questions, when I was just plain excited about something I had read and there was nobody around to listen or understand.

And so, here is my personal response to the problem.  This blog, raw and untamed will have posts from me about technical aspects of language but also some of my creative works too!  And I am here to be useful to anyone who has questions or problems with their writing – be it a professional letter or a college essay.

Just to make a first move into the realms of language, I am leaving you with a mission:

♦♦♦

Think of a noun – mine is girl.

Now consider the many ways  in which you understand that word.

Does the way in which you think about that word collide with the dictionary definition?  If not, why?

Are there ways in which you could use that word in a positive way?  Or a negative way?  Or to assert power?

  1. Dear Jackie, Thank you for following my blog and encouraging me in my writing journey. I do so enjoy reading your posts and wonder when the next poem will be revealed? I have taken the liberty of nominating you for a Liebster Award (an award given from blogger to blogger in recognition of their written work) – I am sure though that you have received plenty of awards anyway, but in case you are interested I have included some info and a link to your website in my latest blog post here – https://sarahjustinepackwood.com/2018/02/23/wayfaring-sarah-has-received-a-liebster-award-and-bends-the-rules/ as well as some questions I have posed to my nominees, should you wish to participate, just for fun and to share blogging with others 🙂 Yours in eager anticipation of your next poem! 2. You are amazing… I stopped, and I started to think what you asked… As I said before, this is my second language and I can’t say it is perfect, but you made me to make a voyage into the thoughts… about “Girl”… in my mind something gone with “The Girl”… suddenly it got “THE”… maybe because of my days right now, Anyway, the girl is a young lady my son got married last weekend and I call her as my real daugther… Thank you dear Jacqui, it is so nice to know you, to meet you, it seems that it would be so nice to follow you. (pls forgive my for my mistakes in this language) Love, nia
